Believe it or not, the Knoxville Ooze won not one, but two awards in the 2025 Communicator Awards. Well, both are silver but it's still cool.
What are the Communicator Awards? They describe themselves as recognizing "excellence, effectiveness, and innovation across all areas of communication" and is evaluated by The Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts (AIVA) and receive thousands of submissions per year.
They use a rating scale from 1-10 on each submission, with 9+ being an "Excellence" award (Gold) and 7.5-8.9 being "Distinction" (Silver). We won Distinction for both, which tracks with my school days B and C+ report cards.
As far as what we were honored for, we won in "General Social Media - Arts, Culture & Entertainment" and "Feature - Events & Live-streaming."
So what does this mean? I don't know but it's cool, and we will get trophies.
Taking a look at the competition who got the gold and fellow silvers, it does make me feel better since it seems like they have budgets and stuff vs goofing around in my free time and getting help from Ripley.
In the Arts, Culture & Entertainment category, our winning competition was in Excellence/Gold "The Magic of Gifting Books" from Imagina Digital Solutions, a Spanish marketing company, for Penguin Random House. Congrats to them, I love books
In the Distinction/Silver category, our winning competition was two Memphis Symphony Orchestra marketing campaigns done by Kelley & Associates, also out of Memphis. They like did actual cool stuff and seem to actually know what they're doing. Congrats to them!
In the Events category, our only winning competition was "Becoming Unstoppable 13+Hr Live Virtual Event w/260k+ People Live Host Jamie Kern w/Guest Oprah & More", which is an inspirational type thing, so that's cool and I hope it inspired people. They got the gold Excellence award. I can't imagine streaming for more than 13 hours, much less a few minutes. Congrats to them!
But yeah we really want to thank all of y'all for supporting us and supporting the local music scene! When the trophies get here we'll let you take photos and give acceptance speeches.
