Music genres are nebulous things. At what point does southern rock cross into country? Folk into Americana? Roots rock into indie rock?

This discussion becomes even more interesting when you consider an otherwise regional-based genre like Americana, which has transcended far beyond the confines of any geopolitical border into a sound of its own.

Across hemispheres and sitting in the middle of the pacific, Australia has long produced world-class country and rock artists, and this tradition continues in Americana with The Pleasures, currently on a USA tour and stopping by Knoxville on February 27th at Preservation Pub.

The Pleasures lead singer, Catherine Britt, is no stranger to Tennessee, having moved to Nashville at the age of 17 to hone her craft before returning home in 2009.

She went to recording solo and winning a bunch of awards and accolades and stuff. She's talented.

The other half of The Pleasures, Lachlan Bryan, is an acclaimed songwriter and performer behind the band Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes. He's also talented.

The pair launched The Pleasures together in 2022 and recently launched their debut album, The Beginning of the End a few months ago in 2023 and they've seen chart and radio success with their singles.

According to Britt, the title track, The Beginning of The End, started the sound for the band and set the tone.

The track really does showcase the wide range of influences and talent on display for the band, and what a great way to start the album, and the visuals aesthetics of the music video further showcase the classic sounds with modern influence that the band so excellently pulls off on the album.

Britt also highlighted these two of her favorite tracks on the album for your listening pleasure.

The Pleasures started their USA tour earlier this month, and after the Knoxville show on the 27th, your last chance to see them before they depart will be the 29th in Atlanta.

Britt explained how it's going:

"The tour so far has consisted of long drives, longer flights, jetlag, Starbucks, Mexican food, Almond Joys, podcasts, big chats, late night cups of tea, great gigs, recording new music and being inspired… there’s no place in the world quite like touring the USA :)""

So come on down to Preservation Pub on Market Square on February 27th and see some good music. The show will probably start around 9pm and cover will probably be $5.

I know it's a work and school night but you boss will understand, tell them I said it was cool. Oh, also tell your boss I said you needed a raise.
